COMIC BOOK IDOLS NUMBER 4 ALAN DAVIS

One artist i have followed over the years for his writing as well as his art is Alan Davis ,he's a great storyteller, great draftsman and he has the knack of drawing characters who have the ability to look very graceful and dynamic on the page at the same time ,

if I'm stuck sometimes for a pose or if i need reminding how better to draw a figure i flick through some of Alan's comics ,i never do a direct swipe but i do try to learn from him.

to my mind Alan's work is a blend of Frank Bellamy, Neal Adams and Jim Aparo and sometimes you can see the odd nod to Gil Kane .

i would love to see one day Alan Davis draw and write Garth or Dan Dare but sadly i doubt that would ever happen.

I'm always entertained by Alan's work be it for Marvel or D.C comics.
he never hands in a below standard job so he always inspires.

one publication i picked up worth buying is
Twomorrow publishing's Modern Masters vol 1 which feature a interview with Alan plus interviews with inkers Paul Neary and Mark Farmer plus there's loads of art ,roughs, pencils and inked pages ,its a fantastic book.

  1. Agreed! Love Alan Davis' work, as you well know.

That Modern Masters book is great too. Another edition features Kevin Nowlan, which is equally as great.
